The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) thru the Export Marketing Bureau (DTI-EMB) and the Construction Industry Authority of the Philippines (CIAP)’s Philippine Overseas Construction Board (PODCB), conducted an Information Session on the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) and ASEAN Architect Registry (AAR), and a Networking Session as part of its support and participation in PHILCONSTRUCT Visayas held on 20-22 July 2022 at Waterfront, Cebu City.

The activity aims to create awareness of the country’s free trade agreements (FTAs) and the ASEAN Chartered Professional Engineer (ACPE)/AAR, and promote opportunities in the construction industry overseas.

The business meetings were held between construction companies, namely: First Balfour, Inc., Aidea, Inc., Krah Pipes Manila, Inc., Palafox Associates / Palafox Architecture Group, Inc., and Treasure Island Industrial Corporation, and foreign construction companies located in Cebu namely: Acciona Construction Philippines, Inc., Hanjin Heavy Industries & Construction Co., Ltd., and Hyundai Construction Equipment Philippines.

Competitiveness is important for architects to thrive not only in the Philippines but on a global scale.  The world is becoming increasingly borderless, thanks to globalization and as we saw from the pandemic, it is perfectly possible to deliver services even when you are based in another country.

Architect Abelardo M. Tolentino, President and CEO of Aidea Inc. shared his aspirations to develop a new breed of globally competitive Filipino Architects to add to the list of today’s international household names.

“As Filipino global architects with the framework and expertise, we can provide the gateway for contractors to practice globally as well,” he said.

One of the ways Filipino architects can be practitioners outside is by becoming an ASEAN architect.

PHILCONSTRUCT is the leading construction tradeshow series in the Philippines, with a network of over 60,000 participants showcasing the best products and services in the construction and related engineering services sector. PHILCONSTRUCT 2022 was set up on a Hybrid platform with an interactive stage both on-ground and online connecting buyers and sellers anytime and anywhere and creating new business opportunities on a more flexible platform.

Romago Incorporated President and Board Member of POCB Francisco Gonzales looks forward to seeing more construction industry players outside the country’s borders. Now that the economy is slowly opening to foreigners and investors not only in the construction and related engineering services sector but also in other sectors, there is a need to see this as a practice of healthy competition to improve and align processes and technological procedures with global trends and standards. This opportunity should take advantage of nurturing business ties with neighboring countries as the industry players aspire to be viable partners in building nations.
