The Department of Trade and Industry-Foreign Trade Service Corps (DTI-FTSC) has been conferred with the Information Technology Business Process Association of the Philippines (IBPAP) Crystal Flare for Kindler Award in ceremonies held during the “Flare Awards” on 5 November 2018 at The Peninsula Manila.
The FTSC bagged the recognition due to its efforts in advancing the country’s information technology and business process management (IT-BPM) industry. Emmanuel W. Ang, executive director of the agency, received the award on behalf of the FTSC.
“The FTSC supports the goal of IBPAP in sustaining the growth of the industry and its shift to higher value added services,” Ang said during the awarding ceremony.
Administered by Undersecretary Nora Terrado of DTI’s Trade and Investments Promotions Group, the FTSC has 28 offices abroad and serves as the department’s overseas frontline agency in promoting exports and facilitating inward direct investments.
IBPAP, on the other hand, is an association of IT-BPM players in the country, which has more than 300 support-industry members including six partner associations. The group organized the Flare Awards to celebrate the successes and recognize the stalwarts of the Philippine IT-BPM industry.
According to Terrado, the IT-BPM services offered by the Philippines have expanded to more complex works like omni-channel customer relationship management service.
These offerings, she said, were augmented by artificial intelligence, software services, game development and animation, healthcare information management services, finance and accounting, and global shared services
“Through the years, the Philippines has proven to be an effective offshore service delivery partner to global companies for their customer support and business management processes,” Terrado added.
IBPAP estimates that the country’s IT-BPM industry has created 1.15 million direct jobs and P3.67 million indirect jobs in 2016. Meanwhile in 2015, the Philippine Statistics Authority recorded a P461.4 billion income generated by the industry from transactions outside the country.
DTI Secretary Ramon Lopez guaranteed that the government will continue its support to the sector, as it continues to become a pillar of the Philippine economy.
“Progressive strides on improving ease of doing business and country competitiveness are anticipated to promote the sustained growth in the sector,” he said.
“With digitization and disruptive technologies changing the industry landscape and transforming workforce, interventions across the skill spectrum are also being done to add value to stakeholders,” he added. “The expansion of the IT-BPM sector into centers outside Metro Manila is encouraged to further spur inclusive growth benefitting the economy as a whole.”♦
