The Department of Trade and Industry’s Consumer Protection Group (DTI-CPG) in partnership with ABS-CBN’s DzMM through the consumer-oriented radio program, Konsyumer Atbp (KATBP), paid tribute to outgoing Secretary Adrian Cristobal in an episode last Saturday, 25 June 2016.
The episode initially focused on the achievements of the departments in implementing the provisions of the Republic Act (R.A.) 7394 or the Consumer Act of the Philippines for consumer protection. Also present in the discussions were Secretary Zenaida Monsada of the Department of Energy (DOE); Undersecretary Jose Reaño of the Department of Agriculture (DA); Undersecretary Kenneth Hartigan-Go of the Department of Health (DOH); Director Melita Obillo of the DOE – Oil Industry Management Bureau; and, Dr. Rosendo Sualog of the DOHBureau of Health Facilities and Services.

Secretary Cristobal, first DTI co-anchor of KATBP, was instrumental in advocating consumer rights and responsibilities. Together with ABSCBN reporter and TV host Winnie Cordero from 2005 to 2007, he introduced the Batas Konsyumer segment which engaged the general public in understanding the Consumer Act’s provisions.

KATBP expressed appreciation to Secretary Cristobal for significantly contributing to the education of consumers on product quality and safety on price reasonableness.

KATBP stressed that Secretary Cristobal pioneered a venue that garnered a significant following and became a trusted name in consumer welfare advocacy that was attested by the numerous recognitions it received from different award-giving bodies.

Now on its 11th year, the KATBP Teleradyo program hosted by ‘Usec Che’ then, continues to impact the lives of Filipino consumers.
