The Philippine Delegation during the Opening Ceremony of the 2022 HIMSS Global Health Conference Exhibit 

The Philippine Delegation to 2022 Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) Conference and Exhibitions in Orlando, Florida has generated expected sales of around USD 30-40 million from roughly 300 leads, 25 of which are closed deals, and four (4) partnership agreements with major industry players during the weeklong business matching activities led by the Department of Trade Industry (DTI) through the Export Marketing Bureau (EMB) that was held on March 14 – 17, 2022.  

The outbound business mission was headed by DTI Undersecretary for Competitiveness and Innovation, Dr. Rafaelita Aldaba and organized by the Board of Investments (BOI), DTI-EMB, and the Healthcare Information Management Association of the Philippines (HIMAP), in coordination with the Philippine Trade and Investment Center (PTIC) – USA. The mission aims to promote the Philippines as an investment hub and provider of HIMS outsourcing services. 

“With the focus on promoting the skills set of our Filipino healthcare professionals along with our malasakit trait, we are strategically positioning the Philippines to be the country of choice for healthcare information and other-related services. We are optimistic on the prospects of the industry given the heightened importance of healthcare services amidst the pandemic,” DTI-EMB Assistant Director Jhino Ilano said.  

The government’s strategy is now shifting to high-value services such as healthcare information management services (HIMS) and data analytics that would significantly expand support to the healthcare industry and provide digitalized end-to-end customer experience. 

The HIMS sector has been at the forefront of providing technology-based solutions to address the challenges of COVID-19. The Philippine HIMS industry generated USD 3.1 billion in revenue and contributed to 147,000 full-time employment as of 2020. The sector aims to hit USD 5 billion in revenue in 2022.  

“We can see that the country has vast potential to fuel its growth in the succeeding years,” Assistant Director Ilano added. 

Moreover, the Philippines remains a steadfast choice for English contact center delivery and a credible alternative for the non-voice services delivery.  The country has proven competitive capabilities in information technology (IT) outsourcing investment for healthcare information services.  

Also, HIMS workforce is adaptable when it comes to understanding the behaviors of patients, thus providing a world-class, collaborative quality healthcare experience. 

There are 15 HIMAP-member companies that are part of the Philippine delegation. They offer services such as blockchain, revenue cycle management business and services, healthcare and general IT services, pharmaceutical and life sciences BPM services, healthcare voice, and non-voice support, among others.
