The Department of Trade and Industry – Bureau of Philippine Standards (DTIBPS) celebrates again the importance of standards in upholding the Filipino consumers’ right to safety through the National Standards Week (NSW), held every October 08-14 of each year. NSW is celebrated alongside the World Standards Day (WSD), which is held every 14th of October. This year’s NSW adopts the WSD theme, “Protecting the planet with standards”. The theme emphasizes how standards cover all aspects of energy savings, water and air quality. Their broad use helps reduce the environmental impact of industrial production and processes, facilitates the reuse of limited resources and improves energy efficiency. The World Standards Day (WSD) celebration is led by the major international standardization organizations namely, the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU). The DTI-BPS is the official member representative of the Philippines to the ISO and IEC. National Standards Week (NSW) and World Standards Day (WSD) are celebrated together with the Consumer Welfare Month (CWM) in October. This year’s CWM theme is “Sustainable Consumer in the New Normal”. Due to the community quarantines imposed in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the DTI-BPS is moving all its NSW and WSD events online. The line-up of events will be conducted through Zoom Teleconferencing.
