(28 September 2020) – IT-Busines Process Outsourcing (IT-BPO) executives promoted outsourcing of software and apps development during the webinar on “Creating technologies that deliver value: Leveraging on Philippines’ talents to build apps and software solutions” on 24 September 2020. Juanloz Botor, Business Development Manager of Pointwest Technologies Corp. and Vincent Remo, Member of the Board of Directors and Vice President for Solutions Development of Advanced World Solutions (AWS), Inc. served as resource speakers during the 7th installment of the eight-part “Global Business Processes Powered by the Philippines Webinar Series”. The online event is organized by the Philippine Trade and Investment Centers (PTIC), Embassy and Consulates General of the Philippines in the United States. The webinar series aimed to promote the Philippines as the preferred destination for outsourcing and offshoring among small and medium-sized businesses in the United States.

Juanloz Botor of Pointwest gave an overview of the Philippine IT industry and the different types of IT solutions that are being outsourced in the country. There are about 650,000 IT professionals in the Philippines providing legacy IT services and digital solutions as well as supporting IT platforms and products. A number of top multinationals outsource to the Philippines. The country’s scalable talent pool, cost competitiveness, excellent infrastructure, government support, and proven track record are some of the reasons cited why many firms outsource/offshore their IT operations in the Philippines.

Vincent Remo of AWS, meanwhile, spoke about outsourcing IT solutions as a business strategy. Companies use third-party service providers to allow them to focus on their core business, leverage on the knowledge and IT base of their partners, strengthen their business continuity, mitigate risks, gain access to new markets, lower operational costs, and allows greater flexibility in resource ramp-up and ramp-down. Mr. Remo also tried to dispel some of the myths surrounding outsourcing. Contrary to popular belief, outsourcing is not just for big businesses only. Companies may opt to start small – hiring few fixed time employees (FTEs) or outsourcing small projects in the beginning just to test the waters. Outsourcing processes also does not equate to low cost ergo poor quality. IT-BPO companies adhere to international quality standards and client’s privacy and security policy and implement a robust governance model ensuring that communication, reporting, project management, and other processes complies with service level agreements. Generally speaking, there are three (3) types of engagement models in IT outsourcing: onsite, project-based development, and offshore development center.

Pointwest is founded in 2003 by pioneers of the Philippine Global Sourcing industry and serves many of Fortune 100 establishments.
