Washington, D.C. – The Department of Trade and Industry’s Philippine Trade and Investment Centers in Washington, D.C., New York, San Francisco, and Los Angeles, together with the Embassy of the Philippines and its Consulates General across the United States hosted last May 21 the first of the Trabaho, Negosyo, Kabuhayan (TNK) webinar series aimed at providing Overseas Filipino Investors (OFI) and Filipino-Americans with strategic advice and opportunities for investing in the Philippines.

Philippine Ambassador to the United States Jose Manuel G. Romualdez delivered the opening remarks, where he encouraged our kababayans to maximize the current shelter-at-home orders across many states to learn more about business opportunities available in the Philippines and develop their entrepreneurial skills in these uncertain times.

Award-winning financial journalist Ms. Salve Duplito and tax reform advocate Mr. Mon Abrea headlined the webinar entitled “Tips for our Kababayans in the U.S. on Investing and Entrepreneurship in the Philippines.” Ms. Duplito shared insights on financial planning, investing in the Philippine money market, and detecting financial scams usually aimed at victimizing overseas Filipinos. Mr. Abrea, on the other hand, discussed reforms in the Philippine tax system, such as the possible lowering of corporate income taxes, general tax amnesty, and gave advice on double taxation and how it applies to overseas Filipinos and Filipino-American dual citizens.

More than 150 participants attended the first webinar, which was streamed simultaneously on Facebook Live. The series continues on May 28, 2020 with the topic “Philippine Entrepreneurship in the New Economy” with Mr. Jonathan Petalver, and “Franchise Investment Opportunities in the Philippines” hosted by the Philippine Franchise Association.

The TNK Webinar Series was conceptualized to reach Filipinos all over the United States and advise them of the diverse business opportunities in their home country.♦
