On September 15, 2022, the DTI Baguio Benguet Department of Trade and Industry Baguio-Benguet Provincial Office conducted its regular monitoring and enforcement activity on three hardware shops in Baguio and Benguet, particularly for deformed steel bars of different sizes sold by these stores.

During the testing of these deformed steel bars, a hardware store selling 10mm deformed steel bars, failed the test. The owner of the said hardware store will be given the opportunity to answer the notice of violation issued to them for selling the said products. Meanwhile, the products were sealed and are prohibited from being tampered and sold until the proceeding is concluded.

Businesses mainly engaged in the construction industry and the general public are again advised to be cautious in their purchases of construction materials/products by checking Product Standards (PS) stickers/ marks or Import Commodity Clearance (ICC) stickers/ marks placed on certain construction materials/ products under the PNS. Businesses should also check the integrity and reliability of their suppliers and that the products they sell to the public meet the Philippine National Standards. #dtibaguiobenguet
