Butuan City- Caraga Fabrication Laboratory housed at Caraga State University was launched on 30 October 2018. It is now open to serve the public, the micro, small and medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in particular.
Funded thru DTI’s Shared Service Facility (SSF) program amounting to P12 million, Caraga’s Fabrication Laboratory is a small-scale workshop offering digital fabrication, generally equipped with flexible computer controlled tools. This laboratory is meant to support and translate creative ideas into prototype and mass production.
Industry Clusters in the region that are expected to benefit from this laboratory are: Gifts, Decors and Housewares, Processed Food, Wood, Creative, ICT, Metal, Ceramics and Furniture. CSU students in the field of Engineering, Information Technology, Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources, Arts and Sciences are also identified as the primary users of the facility.
DTI’s Regional Director, Brielgo O. Pagaran emphasized the importance of this FABLAB in the local economy of Caraga. In his speech during the launching, he said that a lot of inventions from Caraga are not in the market due to lack of “state of the art” facility to mass produce the prototype. Under the management of Caraga State University, this laboratory will address many other gaps in the industry.
