The province of Compostela Valley is preparing its aggressive pursuit for the establishment of economic zones in the province with a study mission on May 16 – 20, 2017 to the Eco Zones in Cebu participated by top officials and concerned offices and agencies in the province.

Gov. Jayvee Tyron Uy heads the 40-strong delegation of the Compostela Valley Investment Board composed of officials and personnel including 7 municipal mayors from the 11 municipalities of province, the private sector, as well as officials and personnel from national government agencies.

The Comval Investment Promotion Team will be studying the actual operation of the Eco Zones in Cebu to benchmark for the eventual establishment of the economic zones in Compostela Valley.

The pursuit for the establishment of Eco Zones in Comval is among the key strategies of the Compostela Valley Investment Board to promote and generate more investments in the province. The establishment of economic zones would accelerate the entry of investors as the Eco Zones themselves will be the enticing locators thru the investment incentives and provision of investment facilitation services.

The Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA) is also encouraging the creation of more Eco Zones in Mindanao to spur economic development in the countryside and promote inclusive growth.

The provinces hosting Eco Zones, most of which in Luzon and Visayas, are benefitting tremendously in employment, investments and local revenue generated from these economic zones.

DTI Compostela Valley Provincial Director Atty. Lucky Siegfred Balleque said the province is aggressively working to establish its own Eco Zones after it was realized that Comval is the only area in Davao region that has still no economic zone. Balleque added that having economic zones would give an advantageous position for a province competing for business and investments.
