The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) conducted the Great Cagayan Valley 8th Consumer Assembly 2016 on December 16, 2016 in Brickstone Mall, Tuguegarao City, Cagayan.
With the theme “Green Consumerism: A Shared Responsibility”, the activity aimed to promote consumer empowerment and cooperation among various stakeholders and sectors of society to ensure that consumers are well informed and protected.
It focused on discussions and presentations related to current updates on policies on consumer protection; sectoral presentations on consumerism and other technical presentations.
The assembly highlighted the launching of DTI’s “e-Presyo.” The consumers were able to heighten their knowledge and awareness and to check the monitored prevailing prices of basic necessities and prime commodities that are being monitored by DTI through the On-line Price Monitoring System (OPMS).

Selected Bagwis awardees shared their testimonies on how their best practices in protecting consumers and how their businesses benefited from the DTI Bagwis Program.
Thirteen Pioneer Bagwis awardees were also honored and recognized for being able to sustain their Bagwis award for the past 10 years now.
A one (1) day Diskwento Caravan (DC) was also conducted for the consumers to buy Noche Buena products and other products needed for the Christmas season at discounted prices. The one day DC has generated a total sales amounting to Php. 62,098.00.
Identified topics during the technical sessions were, Financial Literacy; (Ms. Maria Elena A. Madriaga of Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas) Consumerism Modules under the K to 12 Program (DepEd); Salient Provisions of RA No. 10909 or the No Short-changing Act (DTI); Empowerment of Women on Consumerism (Women’s Sector); Mandatory Products for Certification (Product Standards) (DTI); Salient Provisions of the Price Act; Programs/Services of the Food and Drugs Administration on Consumer Protection (FDA); Programs/Services of the Department of Agriculture on Consumer Protection (DA); and Benefits and Privileges of Senior Citizens and Persons with Disabilities (DSWD).
In attendance were 250 participants from LGUs, Academe, Regional Line Agencies, Retailers, Consumer Organizations including the Bagwis Awardees.
