inspection of construction materials
DTI 4-A officials inspect construction materials in Agoncillo, Batangas

During the Rehabilitation and Recovery Planning Workshop in Tagaytay City, Cavite on May 31 – June 1, 2017, it was raised by some local government units (LGUs) in Batangas that one of the possible reasons why houses of the residents in the areas affected by earthquake swarm were easily damaged is due to the substandard construction materials. Thus, the Department of Trade and Industry Region IV-A started the conduct of Product Standards Monitoring of Construction Materials and Electrical Devices in the municipality of Agoncillo on June 19, 2017. Back to back with this activity is the assessment and field validation of the impact of earthquake swarm.

The purpose of the said monitoring is not only to validate the report of the LGUs concerned but also to ensure that the products under DTI’s mandatory certification scheme being offered for sale in the market conform to the Republic Act 4109 or the Product Standards Law and the DTI’s Department Administrative Order No. 2, series of 2007 (DAO 2:2007).

DTI 4-A warned business establishments to refrain from selling uncertified and substandard products and urged consumers to ensure their safety by patronizing only the products that meet quality standards.
