To heighten consumer awareness and vigilance for quality and safe products among our youths, the Department of Trade and Industry Region 4-A conducted the Regional Dulaang Pangmamimili and the 1st Regional Infomercial Competition 2017 simultaneously at the University of the Philippines Los Banos, Laguna on 17 November 2017.

“We hold consumer activities like Dulaan every year because we want to engage our consumers, specifically our youths, in addressing their rights and assuming responsibilities and to engage our partners from the private sector, academe, media, and other government and non-government agencies to achieve service excellence for our consumers,” said DTI CALABARZON Director Marilou Toledo.

The Dulaang Pangmamimili is a nationwide role-playing competition being participated by high school level students, both public and private, who will act out scenarios around the theme for this year, “Consumer Rights in the Digital Age.” It is an initiative of DTI CALABARZON as part of the Consumer Welfare Month Celebration. The criteria for judging were coherence/comprehensive script, relevance to consumerism, originality/creativity/entertainment value, audience impact, and adherence to the rules.

Maryhill College-Quezon was hailed champion in the Dulaang Pangmamimili Contest. Tagumpay National High School-Rizal got the 1st runner-up award, Lodlod National High School-Batangas as 2nd runner-up, Col. Lauro D. Dizon Memorial National High School-Laguna as 3rd runner-up, and Congressional National High School-Cavite as 4th runner-up.

On the other hand, DTI 4-A held its first ever Regional Infomercial Competition. With the theme, “Consumer Protection and Responsible Consumption,” five different colleges from the CALABARZON region harnessed their creativity. The criteria of judging were based on content, technical excellence, overall quality, and relevance to the theme.

“To maximize the benefits of technology, infomercials are now being used by different institutions in disseminating information. We in DTI see this as a powerful platform to broadly reach consumers. Thus, we want to capture the interest of the viewers through the use of animation, special effects, colors, and sounds,” said DTI CALABARZON Assistant Director Marcelina Alcantara.

For the Infomercial Competition, the Lyceum of the Philippines-Batangas was declared Champion, followed by the National College of Science and Technology-Cavite as 1st runner-up, Laguna State Polytechnic University-Laguna as 2nd runner-up, University of Rizal System Binangonan-Rizal as 3rd runner-up, and St. Anne College of the Pacific-Quezon as 4th runner-up.

The DTI 4-A partnered with the Department of Education, UPLB Department of Social Development Services, College of Human Ecology, and College of Development Communication, Malayan Colleges of Laguna, and DZJV Radyo ng Bayan in conducting the said consumer activities.
