Pursuant to Proclamation Nos. 929 and 922, series of 2020 and Republic Act No. 11332, following the sharp increase in the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases throughout the country, the entire Luzon was put under Enhanced Community Quarantine from March 17, 2020 to April 13, 2020.

As per guidelines of the Enhanced Community Quarantine, people were advised to stay indoors and any kind of mass gathering was prohibited. In effect, people made sure to stock-up on food and other necessities to sustain themselves during the quarantine period.

After a week on Enhanced Community Quarantine, here are the results of the continuous monitoring of the supply and price of basic necessities and prime commodities (BNPC) done by DTI-Laguna:

  • Most of the public and private markets, groceries and supermarkets are still open.
  • Prices remain stable and still within the Price Freeze for the BNPCs under DTI’s jurisdiction.
  • Deliveries of supplies of BNPCs are still continuous.
  • Supply of BNPCs under DTI’s jurisdiction is still sufficient except for instant noodles, canned goods and water. Nevertheless, stocks are always being replenished.

DTI-Laguna also monitors the market situation in the province. Over the past week, these are what were observed:

  • All stores and supermarkets strictly implement social distancing. In some stores, markers were put on the floors around 2 feet to 3.5 feet apart by the cashier to serve as guide to the shoppers for the purpose of compliance to social distancing. Also, some stores are just allowing a certain number of shoppers at a time – others have to wait outside while waiting for their turn to buy.
  • Some supermarkets provide service vehicles to their staff before and after their working hours since there is no allowed form of transport in some areas.
  • In Biñan District, as per report, there is a problem in the entry of some personnel coming from other towns.
  • Likewise, in Santa Rosa District, there is a problem in the entry of some personnel coming from other towns particularly Biñan City. ♦
