LUISIANA, Laguna — The Department of Trade and Industry – Laguna Provincial Office (DTI-Laguna) through its Negosyo Center Luisiana conducted a face-to-face seminar on Consumer Rights including the rights and privileges of Senior Citizens on 19 March 2021. Held at the 2F Luisiana Municipal Building, the town’s Office of the Senior Citizens Affairs (OSCA) President and barangay officials and members participated in the said event.
This activity was an initiative of OSCA due to the rising issues and complaints in the municipality. Through the joint effort of DTI-Laguna Negosyo Center Luisiana, DTI-Laguna Consumer Protection Division, Sangguniang Bayan, OSCA, and the Office of the Municipal Mayor, the participants were provided with necessary information and guidelines on their rights based on RA 9994, otherwise known as the Expanded Senior Citizens Act of 2010. They also requested a separate orientation on the same topic to be participated with entrepreneurs, emphasizing the implementing rules and regulation on this law.
Ms. Maria Clara Conopio, Senior Trade and Industry Development Specialist from DTI-Laguna, served as the Resource Speaker of the said event. She shared her knowledge and experience on the said topic and provided clarifications on the participants’ inquiries.
In addition to, specific concerns regarding some drug stores not adhering to the Senior Citizen rights were discussed. The Office of the Municipal Mayor assured the participants that they will act on these concerns as long as these are verified and legitimate. Luisiana Municipal Mayor Nestor Rondilla extended his continuous support to the programs and policies of OSCA as well as to the programs and services of DTI-Laguna. Vitamins were distributed on-site.
The event was concluded with the closing remarks from Mr. Arnel Magpily, DTI-Laguna Business Development Division Officer-in-Charge. He expressed the Department’s intention to always accommodate their inquiries on issues concerning their rights and encouraged them to visit the Negosyo Center if they wished to clarify matters concerning their rights and privileges and business inquiries as well.
