What is the ASEAN Online Sale Day 2021?

The ASEAN Online Sale Day (AOSD) is a three-day sale ASEAN-wide sale event where participating e-commerce businesses and marketplaces will offer online discounts and promotions to consumers within the ASEAN region. Led by the ASEAN Coordinating Committee on E-Commerce (ACCEC), the AOSD seeks to facilitate cross-border e-commerce, improve consumer trust in online transactions, and promote the unique ASEAN identity.

On 08-10 August 2021, Filipinos can avail of discounts not only from participating e-commerce businesses and marketplaces in the Philippines, but also from those participating from neighboring ASEAN countries.

How to participate in the ASEAN Online Sale Day 2021?

Who can participate?

  • Philippine-based business or marketplace selling [Philippine-made or Philippine-branded] goods or services online may participate[1].
  • Businesses or marketplaces based in another ASEAN Member State will need to register with the relevant government agency of that ASEAN Member State. For more information, visit the AOSD website (http://onlineasean.com/).
  • There are no registration or other related fees to participate in the AOSD.

Why should businesses and marketplaces participate in the AOSD?

  • Participating businesses and marketplaces will receive the official AOSD logo for use during the AOSD.
  • Participating businesses and marketplaces will also be featured on ASEAN’s and the DTI’s official publicity channels.
  • Participating businesses and marketplaces need not secure a DTI sales permit.

What marketing efforts will there be ahead of the ASEAN Online Sale Day 2021?

  • An official AOSD webpage (http://onlineasean.com/) will be launched on 08 August 2021.
  • The webpage will feature the logos and hyperlinks of participating businesses and marketplaces to direct traffic to participating businesses’ websites.
  • The ASEAN Secretariat will be conducting regional marketing campaigns to publicize the AOSD from July to August 2021.
  • The DTI will also be conducting a regional market campaigns to promote the AOSD and participating Philippine businesses and market places from July to August 2021. Certain Philippine-made products of participating businesses and marketplaces may also be highlighted in the marketing campaigns.
Expectations from Participating Businesses

Before the event

  • Upon review and confirmation of the DTI, participating businesses and marketplaces will receive an official logo to display on their websites and platforms until 10 August 2021.
  • Participating marketplaces shall provide the logo to merchants on their platforms.
  • Participating businesses shall determine their own marketing strategies and discounts for the ASEAN Online Sale Day. Details of the sales discount shall be forwarded to DTI for reference and compliance checking purposes.
  • As a government-led initiative, participating businesses are no longer required to secure sales permit from the DTI.

During the event

  • The official event will be held on 08-10 August 2021.
  • Participating businesses are encouraged to use ASEAN-related words in their discount codes as part of the ASEAN Online Sale Day (e.g. AOSD2021). Sales discount and other promotions submitted by businesses and marketplaces to DTI in their application shall be honored by participating businesses and marketplaces as part of the requirement for the ASEAN Online Sale Day.
  • DTI shall monitor, receive and process possible consumer complaints on the ASEAN Online Sale Day such as the application of discounts and non-delivery of purchased goods or services. The nominated focal points of participating businesses and marketplaces must coordinate and work with the DTI in resolving these complaints.

After the event

  • Participating businesses shall remove the official logo and banner on 11 August 2021.
  • To measure the success of the ASEAN Online Sale Day and improve future iterations of the event, participating businesses and marketplaces shall be invited to share the sales outcomes of the initiative on a voluntary basis.
  • A questionnaire will also be shared with all participating businesses and marketplaces to gather feedback on the event.
Consumer Visibility of the ASEAN Online Sale Day

On 08 August 2021, the ASEAN Coordinating Committee on E-Commerce (ACCEC) will officially launch the ASEAN Online Sale Day webpage. To promote participation of e-commerce businesses, platforms and consumers, the ASEAN Economic Ministers (AEM) and the Secretary-General of ASEAN will respectively issue a Joint Media Statement (JMS) and release a recorded message in official media channels of ASEAN. The webpage shall also be heavily marketed by respective ASEAN Member States (AMS) to support consumer visibility of the ASEAN Online Sale Day.
