GET ready to learn from the country’s top creative minds through a series of learning sessions on creativity, design and business during the second edition of CREATE Philippines 2018 on September 22 and 23 at the Globe Tower, Bonifacio Global City, Taguig.

“Attendees are set for an exciting and insightful experience in the second edition of CREATE Philippines, which will feature a master class, portfolio exhibits and a networking event,” said Paulina Suaco-Juan, the newly appointed Executive Director of the Center for International Trade Expositions and Missions (CITEM) of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).

Organized by CITEM, CREATE Philippines aims to give the country’s creative economy a strong voice in the global arena and make the Philippines a top destination in the Asia Pacific for creative content and services.

In this year’s edition, the event will focus on Communication Design, a multidisciplinary practice that shapes ideas and information delivered through various platforms, such as print and publishing, web and app design, and motion graphics.

Enlivening the event is CREATE Philippines’s partnership with the Communication Design Association of the Philippines (CDAP), Globe Lifestyle, Creative Nation Academy and the International Design Conference (IDC) on September 21, in coordination with the Design Center of the Philippines.

“We have invited top creative industry leaders across the country to share innovative ideas and market insights on their fields of expertise—be it on new creative trends, aesthetics, and best practices highlighted with the success stories of their own projects,” Suaco-Juan noted.

As part of the event’s business curriculum, Love and Madness Clothing Corp. owner AJ Dimacurot will talk about “Learning to Design Around Life” with his background in creating iconic works on t-shirts, having designed for the likes of Manny Pacquiao and Michael Jackson. His roster of clients include Nike, Jordan Brand, Adidas and Uniqlo, to name a few.

Cofounder of Happy Garaje Mark Joseph Deutsch is set to share insights on “How Creativity Boosts Business,” as he previously handled graphic-design work, galleries, film, picture books and many other projects. A professor of Master of Arts in Applied Art and Design Program, this Cebu-based creative has collaborated with various clients, including Disney Asia, Ramon Aboitiz Foundation, 500 Startups, The Four Seasons, Geeks on a Beach and The Abaca Group.

Another presenter will be Raxenne Dosher Maniquiz, a talented graphic designer and illustrator for Plus 63 Design Co., who will discuss the “Creative Process Behind Collaborating with Brands.” Her previous clients include Bratpack, Digital Walker, Charles & Keith Philippines  Cole Haan Philippines, Guess Philippines, and Honda Japan, to name a few.

Her work has been featured in books such as Asian Creatives: 150 Most Promising Talents in Art, Design, Illustration and Photography (Japan) and Creative Talk in Asia: Volume 2 (Hong Kong).

To help creatives safeguard their work, CREATE Philippines 2018 will also host a lecture on “The Business of Protecting Creativity” by the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines.

Creatives who want to boost their technical know-how should attend Rollan Bañez’s discussion, titled “Faster and Better Product Visualization Using Adobe Dimension CC.” Dubbed as the Creative Cloud Evangelist of the Philippines, Bañez is a widely known Adobe Certified Instructor with ACI, ACE, CTT+ certifications.  He is also an Adobe Creative Insider ambassador and the cofounder/training manager of Creative Nation Academy.

“Rollan Bañez’s lecture, as a certified Adobe instructor, is certainly beneficial to attending creatives since many of them today use Adobe Dimension CC as a platform for their ideas to take shape,” Suaco-Juan said.

Creative Economy Council of the Philippines (CECP) President Paolo Mercado will give a talk on “Industry Overview on Raising the Value of Design.” Mercado, who serves as the senior VP for Marketing, Communication and Innovation for Nestle Philippines, will also present a case study on  Modular Design Group Built by Independents.

“I’ll be giving an update on the state of the creative economy, the projects that we’re running at the Creative Economy Council. But what I’m most excited to talk about is the recently approved creation of a design hub within Intramuros,” Mercado said.

CDAP President and TeamManila Founder Jowee Alviar will talk on “Growing Your Design Business” as he presents a case study on his own award-winning design studio, TeamManila.

Meanwhile, Angel Guerrero, founder and CEO of Adobo Magazine, will discuss the “Business of Design from a Brand and Agency Perspective” with her 20-year career experience in the advertising industry, handling global and regional brands.

“In the two-day event, attendees can gather new insights on how they can improve their business portfolio as part of the formal economy, safeguard their intellectual property rights and develop new skills on running a creative business from our roster of experts,” Suaco-Juan said.

“This is also an opportunity for potential investors and businessmen to come up with new creative solutions for their companies since they will have the chance to avail [themselves] of a one-on-one consultation with our experts, partners and other creatives in the portfolio exhibit,” she added.
