TOKYO, JAPAN — The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) through the Philippine Trade and Investment Center (PTIC) – Tokyo, supported by the Philippine Embassy in Tokyo, organized two roundtable meetings with Japanese business executives as part of the Philippine government’s continuous investment promotion efforts to help accelerate the country’s economic development.

PTIC-Tokyo Commercial Counselor Dita Angara-Mathay moderated the forum which centers on participating Japanese companies’ decarbonization plans and how the Philippine government can assist in their expansion and sustainable development goals.

During the discussion, the Department of Energy (DOE) Secretary Raphael P.M. Lotilla presented the Philippine energy sector and provided updates on the energy situation in the country particularly on the supply and consumption; power generation mix; future energy scenario; market development mechanisms, institutionalized market-driven policies and the Philippine government’s drive to provide affordable, adequate, secure, sustainable, and reasonably priced energy for all the stakeholders in the country.

The Energy Secretary also highlighted some government legislation and policies such as the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Act or RA 11285 and the Electric Vehicle Industry Development Act (EVIDA) also known as RA 11697, which will help in the transformation of the country by reducing greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) and air pollution. Further, Sec. Lotilla addressed the issues and concerns raised by the participating Japanese companies.

Additionally, Ambassador-designate Mylene J. Garcia-Albano of the Philippine Embassy in Tokyo, affirmed in her remarks the Embassy’s support on PH – JP partnerships, “On our part, we welcome opportunities for the government and private sector to achieve our mutually beneficial goals.  The Embassy stands ready to assist in facilitating these engagements.” *
