The Bureau of Plant Industry (BPI) received its certificate of accreditation for its National Seed Quality Control Services (NSQCS) Central Office to PNS ISO/IEC 17025:2005 on June 3, 2019 at the BPI-NSQCS Conference Room, Visayas Avenue, Diliman Quezon City. Philippine Accreditation Bureau (PAB) Officer-in-Charge Ernani M. Dionisio awarded the certificate of accreditation to NSQCS Chief and Quality Manager Ruel C. Gesmundo and BPI Officer-in-Charge George Y. Culaste.

The laboratory was found to be compliant to the international standard requirements in the field of Biological Testing (Seed Testing). The certificate issued on February 19, 2019 is valid until February 18, 2024 subject to continuing conformity with the criteria and PAB conditions for laboratory accreditation.

NSQCS aims to serve the Filipino farmers through access to quality seeds and planting materials that guarantee high productivity and profit. Seed and plant material certification enables the maintenance of the genetic identity, varietal purity and standard of high quality seeds of superior varieties. NSQCS also performs seed health test, vigor test, and varietal identification thru molecular techniques for selected crops. In coordination with Agricultural Training Institute and other government and private institutions. NSQCS also conducts training courses designed to improve knowledge and skills for effective farming system.

By virtue of Executive Order 802, the Philippine Accreditation Bureau (PAB) is the national accreditation body mandated to accredit inspection bodies, certification bodies, testing and certification laboratories and other bodies offering conformity assessment services. To date, it has accredited a total of 166 testing laboratories, 46 calibration laboratories, 7 medical laboratories, 8 inspection bodies and 16 certification bodies for a total of 243 conformity assessment bodies.
