On July 26, 2023, the Department of Trade and Industry’s Philippine Accreditation Bureau (DTI-PAB) conducted a virtual briefing via Zoom for the personnel of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR). The session was attended by 54 personnel representing different Bureaus of DENR, marking a collaborative effort to enhance the quality of conformity assessment activities provided to the public.

The briefing aimed to familiarize DENR personnel with the mandates and accreditation services offered by DTI-PAB. The session commenced with Ms. Japhet Celis, Officer-in-Charge of PAB Promotion and Documentation Division (PDD), presenting an overview of DTI-PAB’s mandate. Ms. Celis emphasized the importance of accreditation for a government agency, both as a user and provider of such services.

Engr. Ma. Juanita P. Carpio, Chief of the Management System Accreditation Division (MSAD), then took the virtual floor to explain the accreditation services and processes under her division. Through her presentation, Engr. Carpio shed light on the significance of management system accreditation in ensuring organizations adhere to quality standards and best practices.

Ms. Katrina A. Talle, Senior Trade-Industry Development Specialist of PAB-Laboratory Accreditation Division, furthered the discussion by delving into the accreditation services and processes under the Laboratory Accreditation Division. She also provided an in-depth overview of ISO/IEC 17025, which outlines the general requirements for the competence of testing and calibration laboratories. This presentation aimed to equip DENR personnel with a comprehensive understanding of laboratory accreditation and its vital role in ensuring the accuracy and reliability of testing results.

The collaboration between DTI-PAB and DENR was a direct result of the agreements made during the 19th PAB Council Meeting held on March 20, 2023. This proactive initiative demonstrates how different government agencies are working together to achieve a common goal – providing more efficient and high-quality services to the public in terms of conformity assessment activities.

Through this informative briefing, DENR personnel gained valuable insights into the accreditation services that DTI-PAB offers. The knowledge acquired during the session is expected to enhance the DENR’s ability to streamline its processes and improve the overall quality of its services.

As the nation continues to push for excellence in various sectors, collaborative efforts like these, underscore the government’s dedication to continuously raise the bar and meet international standards.
