The Molave Trading, Inc. hosted the LABCON 2019 with the theme “Solutions for a Sustainable Lab Managament” on October 11, 2019 at the 2F Monet Hall, Novotel Manila, Araneta Center, General Aguinaldo Ave., Cubao Quezon City. About a hundred participants from different laboratories composed of lab managers, supervisors, analysts, technicians from food, feed, pharmaceutical, mining, cement, petro, and testing laboratories attended the laboratory conference.

Ms. Perla Baje, Division, Chief of the Philippine Accreditation Bureau (PAB) – Laboratory Accreditation Division (LAD) of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) discussed the accreditation process for ISO/IEC 17025:2017 (General requirements for the competence of testing and calibration laboratories). The presentation was followed by a question and answer session. One participant requested for clarification whether in what way PAB’s accreditation standards differ from standards of regulatory agencies. Ms. Baje responded that PAB accreditation is based on international standards while the regulatory agencies (i.e. DENR) based their standards from their regulation or Department Administrative Order.

The LABCON is Molave’s annual flagship conference to provide a venue for customers to share and learn good laboratory practices. This year’s goal is to guide the participants in practicing sustainability in their respective laboratories especially in chemical waste reduction, chemical handling, and resource management. Parallel sessions with resource speakers coming from different industries of food, pharma and heavy industries were also held during the event.
