The DTI Philippines through the Philippine Trade Training Center  – Global MSME Academy, DTI – Export Marketing Bureau, DTI Jakarta and Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry brought together distinguished resource speakers from various Philippine and Indonesia government agencies in the free webinar dubbed “Doing Business in Indonesia under Law No. 33 of 2014 on Halal Product Assurance” on 24 June 2020, 3:00pm-5:30pm (Manila, PH Time).

Director James E. Empeño of the Philippine Accreditation Bureau (PAB) discussed the scopes, requirements and regulations of Halal Accreditation in the Philippines. Dir. Empeño said that while PAB wants Halal certifiers to be accredited, we should still follow the law stated in Republic Act 10817. The PAB Director mentioned that the biggest hurdle of Halal CBs is compliance with the requirements of the ISO/IEC 17065 and in that area, PAB would like to help the Halal CBs. He added that we cannot bend the rules of accreditation because it is based on international standards.   

Other notable speakers shared valuable insights during the event. DTI-Export Marketing Bureau’s Dir. Senen Perlada set the tone with his talk on the Overview on the Philippine Halal Export Development and Promotion Program. Philippine Chamber and Commerce Industry Director Roberto “Bobby” C. Amores’s discussion on “Building Bridges with Indonesia on Halal Opportunities” was particularly interesting to businesses engaged in the manufacture and trading of Halal products and services. Prof. IR. Sukoso of the Halal Product Assurance and Certification Agency in Indonesia was the main discussant for “Doing Business in Indonesia under Law No. 33 of 2014 on Halal Product Assurance”. Prof. Sukoso shared the new regulations on doing business in Indonesia and also provided guidelines “ Halal Product Certification Process.

The free Halal webinar was conducted via Zoom and viewers were also encouraged to watch in the Facebook page of PTTC-GMEA. The event was hosted by Ms. Maricris Cura of DTI-PTTC and Mr. Raison Arobinto of DTI-EMB.
