The Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM) held its awarding ceremony for the accreditation of its National Tuberculosis Reference Laboratory (NTRL) to ISO 15189:2013 during the celebration of their 37th anniversary last 23 April 2018. PAB Director Ernani Dionisio awarded the PNS ISO 15189:2013 certificate of accreditation to NTRL represented by its Head Dr. Ma. Cecilia G. Ama.
The laboratory was found to be compliant to the international standard requirements in the field of Medical Testing. The certificate was issued on December 19, 2017 and is valid until December 19, 2022 subject to continuing conformity with the criteria and PAB conditions for accreditation.
The RITM in Muntinlupa provides state-of-the-art facilities dedicated to research, training, clinical care, and biologicals manufacturing. It houses laboratories, hospital facilities, biologicals production facilities, isolate bank, training center, and dormitory.
It aims to provide leadership in ensuring quality TB laboratory services and networking through efficient and effective management in support of the National Tuberculosis Program (NTP).
The laboratory is globally competent in providing high quality health services to protect Filipinos against infectious, tropical and dermatological diseases.
As of March 2018, DTI PAB has accredited a total of 264 conformity assessment bodies (CABs) that include 186 testing laboratories, 47 calibration laboratories, 7 medical laboratories, 7 inspection bodies and 17 certification bodies.
