The Philippine Accreditation Bureau (PAB) in collaboration with the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Market Encounter Goes to Manila (PCCI-MEGMA) has successfully conducted a day and a half workshop for Halal Certification Bodies (HCBs). Dubbed as “Understanding Accreditation of Halal Certification Scheme Based on ISO/IEC 17065”, the HCBs were informed on the technicalities and specifications of ISO/IEC 17065, the International Standard on the requirements for the competence, consistent operation and impartiality of certification bodies for product, process and service. The event was held at the Don Emilio Yap Boardroom, 3rd Floor, PCCI Building Campus Avenue, Taguig City last 19-20 March 2018.

PCCI is a non-government organization that provides advocacy focusing on sustainable business growth and development through the provision of the business services that caters to the advancement of grassroots entrepreneurship, chamber development, international trade relations, business innovation and excellence, and operating efficiency. They work closely with professional organizations and different public and private sectors to achieve these goals.

Ms. Juanita P. Carpio, Head of the Management System Accreditation Division of PAB discussed structural and management system requirements of the standard and engaged participants through a workshop. Ms. Amor F. Lahoz, Head of PAB Promotion and Documentation Division was also present to talk about the benefits of accreditation of Halal Certification, while resource persons from Islamic Da’wah Council of The Philippines (IDCP) and Halal Development Institute of the Philippines (HDIP) were invited to share their halal certification process.

Through this workshop, HCBs are expected to have a better appreciation of the requirements of ISO/IEC 17065 that can aid them in developing, improving and implementing their policies and procedures in certifying organizations that provides Halal products, services and processes.
