ROXAS CITY, CAPIZ — History was made on December 05, 2023, as the province of Capiz proudly launched its very first One Town, One Product (OTOP) Hub. Situated at the Sitio Uno Township Building, Pueblo de Panay, Lawaan, Roxas City, this initiative, in collaboration with the Department of Trade and Industry Region VI, the Capiz Aquaculture Producers Cooperative (CAPC) and the Roxas City LGU, aims to provide a platform for the promotion of products crafted by homegrown entrepreneurs.

Capiz now stands as the proud home to the 7th OTOP Hub in Western Visayas, which highlights the province’s commitment to economic growth and sustainable development. Gracing the launching ceremony are Ms. Mary Jade Gonzales representing DTI Region VI OIC-RD Rachel Nufable, DTI Capiz Provincial Director Ken Queenie Cuñada, Mr. Glenn Amane representing Mayor Ronnie T. Dadivas, Ms. Victoria “Harriet” O. Banzon, CAPC Chairperson, and Mr. Dale Bernas from the Philippine SME Development Council (PMSMEDC).

The highlight of the event was the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) by the project partners, sealing their commitment to this groundbreaking initiative. The MOA outlines the roles and responsibilities of each party, solidifying their dedication to the success of the Capiz OTOP Hub.

The recently enacted Republic Act 11960, known as the OTOP Philippines Act, underscores the establishment of OTOP hubs and local program offices in all local government units nationwide. The legislation permits the establishment of OTOP Philippines hubs in areas known for high tourism and commerce, recognizing the impact of these locations in attracting people.

RA 11960 also aligns with the OTOP program’s goals, which includes promoting local products, empowering Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), and facilitating the development of indigenous raw materials while promoting the use of traditional skills and talents deeply rooted in local traditions and cultures.Top of Form
