Micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in agriculture in MIMAROPA will be featured on mainstream media as the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) partners with GMA7’s Agripreneur Show to promote the agricultural sector in the region.

Agripreneur, a local daytime show broadcasted by media giant GMA7 Network, features the local agriculture industry and stories of entrepreneurs and farmers behind the country’s thriving farms and agricultural spaces. It is hosted by renowned journalist Jiggy Manicad.

MIMAROPA is envisioned as the food basket for the country, as it is also a haven for tourism, industry, and technology. The agricultural sector in MIMAROPA accounts for the bulk of the region’s economy. Its island provinces pose vast potentials for agricultural development towards sustainable and all-inclusive growth.

DTI-MIMAROPA as the lead agency that centers the MSMEs’ development, likewise understands the role of agriculture in entrepreneurship in the new market. In 2020 alone, DTI-MIMAROPA has assisted 12, 831 potential and existing MSMEs from all sectors through its various programs and projects for business development, mainly the One Town One Product (OTOP) Program, Shared Service Facilities (SSF), and Negosyo Center Program, among others. Thus, DTI-MIMAROPA aims to intensify the promotion and awareness of its homegrown assisted agri-based MSMEs through information advocacy and campaign. More importantly, this project acknowledges the role of media toward MSME development.

“MIMAROPA is emerging as a potentially big market for agribusiness. We are committed to cultivating the region’s rich agricultural sector with an entrepreneurial approach.” DTI-MIMAROPA Regional Director Joel B. Valera said.

By applying the “Zero to Hero” format, selected MSMEs are provided with a medium where they could share their business success journeys with the Department’s interventions. Furthermore, this project shall provide an avenue for the MSMEs and local farmers to expand their potential market and sales.

The Oriental Mindoro Leg focused on the emerging export industry in calamansi and the thriving livestock industry in the province. Meanwhile, the Occidental Mindoro Leg features the tuna and fisheries, and salt industries. The Marinduque Leg, on the other hand, highlights the industries of banana and arrowroot. Moreover, sustainable entrepreneurship in the agricultural sector is the primary story for the Palawan Leg. Likewise, the Romblon Leg puts into the spotlight how the province’s MSMEs marry industrialization and environment care.

The first episode of the docu-series will air on March 06 2021, at 5:30 a.m. via the GMA7 Channel, featuring the selected MSMEs from Oriental Mindoro. Like and follow Agripreneur’s official social media pages for more news and updates about the series. ♦
