Skills Training – In its effort to capacitate micro, small, and medium entrepreneurs (MSMEs) by improving their competitiveness through the provision of machinery, equipment, tools, and access to technology, the Department of Trade and Industry – Cordillera Administrative Region (DTI-CAR) also conducts skills training to increase MSMEs productivity and efficiency.
The DTI-CAR through Negosyo Center-Kibungan conducted a skills training on loom weaving in Poblacion, Kibungan, Benguet in partnership with Kibungan LGU under the leadership of Mayor Cesar M. Molitas. Loom weaving from the provincial local government unit (LGU) of Benguet were used in the hands-on intensive tutorial on weaving that included various applications like warping and wefting. The trainers also demonstrated other techniques of weaving like tabby weaving, Rya knots, interlocking, Soumak, weaving with roving, loop stitch, and taking the weave off the loom. The participants from Kibungan are all thankful that they are able to learn helpful techniques and made their day productive.
KMME Batch 2 – The second batch of mentees of 2021 Kapatid Mentor ME – Money Market Encounter (KMME-MME) Online Cordillera (Youth Edition) composed of 65 young entrepreneurs tackled “Entrepreneurial Mind-Setting and Values Formation” as part of the KMME-MME Online Module 1. The program aims to help MSMEs scale up their businesses through weekly coaching and mentoring by business owners/practitioners on different functional areas of entrepreneurship. The KMME-MME program is composed of 12 mentorship modules such as entrepreneurial mind-setting, marketing, product development, marketing expansion and internationalization, business model canvass, operations management, business laws, taxation, financial management, human resource/organization management, supply and value chain, Business Improvement Plan, and culmination and product exposition.
LSP NSB – Twenty beneficiaries from Buguias, Benguet received their livelihood kits under the Livelihood Seeding Program-Negosyo Serbisyo sa Barangay (LSP-NSB) to jumpstart or replenish the stocks of their businesses. The LSP-NSB is a program of DTI that allows a wider reach of business development assistance by bringing government services closer to the people through partnerships between relevant local government units and DTI officials.
DTI a crucial part of Creative Baguio City Council – During the initial meeting following the induction of members of the newly formed Creative Baguio City Council (CBCC) with Mayor Benjamin Magalong as Chairman and co-chaired by Dr. Raymund Rovillos, DTI’s role in the development of the city’s creative industry was recognized especially in the development of local crafts through various programs such as the collaboration of artists and artisans with the FabLab at the Saint Louis University (SLU) Sirib Center, which was partly equipped under the DTI Shared Service Facilities (SSF) program.
SSF – DTI-CAR joined the launching and turn-over ceremony of the Coffee Processing Facility for the Baguio City Farmers Agriculture Cooperative under the Shared Service Facilities program with the city government of Baguio as the main proponent and co-operator.
The project aims to increase the productivity of existing coffee growers in Baguio and eventually boost the expansion of production through backyard farming. The SSF Project aims to improve MSME competitiveness by providing machinery, equipment, tools, systems, accessories, and other auxiliary items, skills, and knowledge under a shared system. The facilities should help target beneficiaries increase their production capacities and improve product quality, resulting in increased markets, increased sales, and jobs generation.
SSF is a public-private partnership initiative being implemented through cooperators who can house the machinery and equipment and make these accessible to MSMEs. ♦
