SURIGAO CITY – Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) launched on September 9 and 10 an online trade fair dubbed as Karajawan nan Surigao which commenced with auspicious results, the trade provincial head here said.  

“The said event was the first of its kind being put together by DTI – Surigao del Norte in retort to the challenges and impacts on local economy brought about by the COVID19 pandemic where businesses, micro small medium enterprises (MSMEs) alike, have suffered a debility,” said DTI Surigao del Norte Officer in Charge Elmer Natad.  

Natad added that true to its innovative nature as the main economic catalyst of the state, DTI SDN has been strategizing new and efficient measures to help boost the local trade and economy of Surigao del Norte amidst the global pandemic thus the virtual trade fair. 

Taking advantage of the digital trend, Surigaonon producers exhibited the local products online through Facebook live streaming. The event’s first run was participated by eight municipalities including Surigao City

Particularly during this time of COVID19 pandemic, the livelihood of local producers is extremely affected. It’s about time we Buy Lokal, Support Lokal. Surigao del Norte, ato ini!),” Natad added.   

OIC Regional Director Gay A. Tidalgo said that the platform is provided to broaden the people’s awareness of the local products of the province and of the region. 

“These products not only are a reflection of our continued economic activity in the region, but more importantly mirrors the identity, the ability, and the promising potentials of the local producers,” Tidalgo added. 

Physical displays were also put up during the Trade Expo’s first day where limited number of people gathered to have a face to face discussion with the Negosyo Center Business Counselors (NCBCs) and micro entrepreneurs (MEs) while observing the minimum health protocols. 

DTI SDN has committed to its partner stakeholders that more virtual trade fairs will be launched targeting to exhibit the products of all the municipalities in the province (DTI Caraga). ♦
