CALAPAN CITY – The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) MIMAROPA Region extends the price freeze bulletin of basic necessities to the 23 coastal barangays of Calapan City in Oriental Mindoro affected by the MT Princess Empress oil spill.

This follows the price freeze advisory posted on March 6 in response to Sangguniang Panlalawigan Resolution No. 6290-2023, placing the municipalities of Pola, Naujan, Pinamalayan, Gloria, Bansud, Bongabong, Roxas, Mansalay, and Bulalacao in Oriental Mindoro under a state of calamity.

ln view of Sangguniang Panlungsod Resolution No. 372 and Section 6 of RA 7581 or the Price Act as amended, the prices of basic necessities under DTI’s jurisdiction in the 23 coastal barangays of Oriental Mindoro are automatically frozen at their prevailing prices effective March 24, 2023, but not more than 60 days. 

Basic necessities under DTI’s jurisdiction include canned fish and other marine products, processed milk (evaporated, condensed and powdered milk), coffee, laundry/ detergent soap, candles, bread (tasty and pandesal), iodized salt, instant noodles, and bottled water.

DTI Oriental Mindoro’s monitoring and enforcement efforts continue across the province to ensure that establishments follow the prevailing prices of basic necessities within the Department’s jurisdiction.

Meanwhile, DTI MIMAROPA OIC-Regional Director Rodolfo J. Mariposque assures the public in a statement that as of March 22, the supplies of basic necessities remain sufficient in the province, “Batay sa aming mga paunang nakalap na reports, nananatiling sapat ang suplay ng mga pangunahing bilihin sa mga apektadong bayan sa Oriental Mindoro. Sisiguraduhin din naming susundin ng mga establisyemento ang itinakdang price freeze at patuloy na sapat ang suplay ng mga pangunahing bilihing binabantayan ng DTI.”
