In order to heighten consumer awareness and promote the agency’s consumer protection programs and services, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Marinduque Consumer Protection Division (CPD) joined the Department of Social Welfare and Development’s (DSWD) monthly Family Development Session (FDS) to capacitate and empower Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) beneficiaries in the province.

Bannering the theme “Pagbibigay Proteksyon sa mga Konsyumers”, DTI Marinduque, through Negosyo Centers Torrijos and Gasan, conducted several information sessions in the following barangays; Suha, Matuyatuya, Tigwi, Cabuyo, and Marlangga in Torrijos, and Pangi, Bangbang, Cabugao, and Libtangin in Gasan from May 18-24, 2022.

DTI Marinduque CPD Chief Nepthune L. Gutierrez led the discussions on consumer education program to raise the level of awareness and understanding of consumers on Basic Consumer Rights and Responsibilities including DTI’s inspection/monitoring/enforcement on Basic Necessities and Prime Commodities, Price Tag, Products Standards and other salient features of the Republic Act 7394, otherwise known as the Consumer Act of the Philippines. 

A total of 658 4Ps program beneficiaries from the nine barangays participated in the week-long activity.

DTI Marinduque believes that through this program, they can help develop and form more vigilant consumers in buying products and availing of services with an assurance of quality, safety, and competitive price without compromising the health, safety, and welfare of their families. Thus, minimizing the exploitation of consumers by unscrupulous traders and lessening the proliferation of uncertified and substandard products. ♦
