The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) MIMAROPA joins the different local government units (LGUs) and government agencies in streamlining the processes of establishing a business, made possible through the convergence of various business development services in one place.

Despite the new normal set-up entering 2021, January is still considered the busiest month for entrepreneurs. Hence, the provincial offices of DTI and its Negosyo Centers have participated in the satellite one-stop-shops for small businesses organized by various LGUs in the region. The Business One-Stop-Shop (BOSS) was designed to streamline the system micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) need to undergo when registering or renewing their businesses.

In 2020 alone, the provincial offices of DTI have recorded 10, 614 business name registrants, comprising 83% of new and existing MSMEs assisted by the region in the same year. DTI, as the lead agency that centers MSME development, administers the registration of business names for sole proprietors. Business Name Registration (BNR) is the first step in registering one’s business. However, BNR only provides the business with a legal identity and is not a permit or a license to operate a business.

DTI-MIMAROPA Regional Director Joel B. Valera emphasizes the need to reduce fragmentation in existing business registration processes, more so, business development services. He adds that Business One-Stop-Shops are important in gathering the different concerned agencies under a single roof and shall guarantee accessibility and cohesion in the delivery of MSME development services.

To ensure the safety of the participants and stakeholders involved, the organizers and participating agencies advise the public that strict health protocols shall be implemented during the BOSS.
