Representatives from Phil. Association of BI and GI Steel Pipes Manufacturers, Inc. monitor products of a hardware store in Cagayan de Oro City.

Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Region 10, in cooperation with the Philippine Association of Black Iron-Galvanized Iron (BI-GI) Pipes and Tubes Manufacturers, Inc., Phelps Dodge Philippines, Ceramic Tiles Manufacturing Association, and Philippine Steelmakers Association,  conducted an Information Campaign on Philippine National Standards (PNS) for BI-Gi Pipes, Steel Bars, Electric Wires and Ceramic Tiles in every province of the region.

The information campaign started in Bukidnon on April 18, 2022. A blended session for Misamis Oriental and Camiguin followed in Cagayan de Oro City, on 19 April and on 20 April 2022 for Lanao del Norte. The campaign ended in Misamis Occidental on April 22, 2022.

The campaign aimed to stir public consciousness on the new PNS 26:2018, or the Steel Specifications of Black and Hot‐dipped Zinc Coated (galvanized) Longitudinally Welded Steel Pipes for Ordinary Use (BI & GI Pipes).

It also intended to increase awareness and compliance on other relevant Philippine Laws and Regulations on Product Standards and the use of safe and quality materials.

A market monitoring was conducted in sample establishments after every provincial information session to survey or check the products of retailers. This is to ensure that establishments carry products that are compliant to the standards for safe use of consumers and fair competition to local manufacturers and retailers.

153 participants composed of LGUs and hardware and construction retailers attended the region-wide campaign. ♦
