The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Misamis Occidental in partnership with the Philippine Center for Entrepreneurship gathered mentee graduates from the 5 batches of Kapatid Mentor ME (KMME) program to gear them up for Micro, Small And Medium Enterprises (MSME) competitiveness during the KMME Summit held last 5 December 2019 at Royal Garden Hotel, Ozamiz City.

The summit was intended for the mentees to earn new learnings and insights to further improve their businesses and to build great network and strong linkages.

DTI-MisOc Provincial Director Jane Marie Tabucan shared that the summit “was realized as a shared aspiration to make growth truly inclusive and felt by the KMME mentees or graduates.”

The summit featured 3 sessions that covered governance, digitalization, and access to markets.

The talk was moderated by Local Coaches Circle-Misamis Occidental Head Coach Michael Amores.

The first session focused on facilitating ease of doing business. The session defined the role of government in fostering a convergence mindset in facilitating the ease of doing business and creating and nurturing entrepreneurs built on a multi-stakeholder approach. 

The panelists were Oroquieta City Mayor Lemuel Meyrick Acosta; Ozamiz City Administrator, Atty. Daniel Macalino; Provincial Micro, Small And Medium Enterprises Development (MSMED) Council chairperson Elvira Tan; and Filipino-Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry representative Pershing Tan-Queto, Jr.

It was moderated by Michael Amores, Head Choach of the Local Coaches Circle-Misamis Occidental.

The second session, entitled “Driving MSMEs to digital transformation,” invited industry expert Jae-Mar Arenque, Functional Consultant of Highly Succeed Inc. Arenque presented various digital platforms and how it can transform businesses by adding value to the existing products of MSMEs and expand their market share at reduced cost.

The series of sessions ended with Seizing Market Opportunities. The discussion tackled ways in tapping new markets and how branding, social connections, and data science matter in sustaining markets.

The panelists for the final session were Clarke Nebrao, chairperson and president of the Association of Laguna Food Processors and mentor of the Philippine Center for Entrepreneurship; Christopher Ursais, store manager of Puregold Ozamiz; Maria Lynetta Rosal, receiving head of Gaisano Ozamiz; and Jungie Hernandez, store manager of Robinsons Ozamiz.

It was the first summit to be held in the province and in the region.♦
