The Department of Trade and Industry Region 2 (DTI-Region 2) participated in the Cities and Municipalities Competitiveness Index (CMCI) Cluster Roadshow in Regions 2 and 4A on 28 June 2021 that was attended by the Local Government Units (LGUs) of the said regions via Zoom.
The CMCI roadshow, which was organized by the DTI Competitiveness Bureau, aims to present the overview of CMCI, including its scoring methodology and the data collection process, especially that an improved CMCI online platform that allows the LGUs to directly input their data in the portal is introduced.
CMCI is an annual ranking of the Philippine cities and municipalities developed by the National Competitiveness Council through the Regional Competitiveness Council (RCC) with the assistance of the United States Agency for International Development.
“In the midst of this pandemic, improving our competitiveness becomes even more challenging. However, this does not hinder us in our pursuit to improve our level of competitiveness and we can still continue to work towards improving our local competitiveness,” said Competitiveness Bureau Director Lilian G. Salonga as she discussed the importance of the CMCI and LGUs in this endeavor.
Furthermore, the overall competitiveness of a city or municipality depends on the following pillars: economic dynamism, government efficiency, infrastructure, resiliency, and innovation–which is a new CMCI pillar that is introduced this year.
DTI Undersecretary Rafaelita M. Aldaba presented the improved CMCI Data Analytic online platform that allows the LGUs to directly input their data into the automated system. This online platform is “an initiative to provide a more interactive and user-friendly interface not only for easier access to the CMCI database but also to facilitate analysis and visualization,” added Usec. Aldaba.
DTI Competitiveness Bureau will hold its objective by building more competitive LGUs to raise the county’s national competitiveness through public and private collaboration towards providing a more efficient and business-friendly environment. ♦
