Alongside the celebration of the World Consumer Rights Day, the Department of Trade and Industry Region 2 (DTI-R2), through the Consumer Protection Division (CPD) in the provincial offices, staged a ceremonial destruction of seized uncertified products.
The uncertified products do not bear the required markings set by the Bureau of Philippines Standards (BPS)–the Philippine Standards (PS) Mark or Import Commodity Clearance (ICC) stickers — which indicates the items’ doubtful integrity, thus, human consumption is considered unsafe and risky.
The seized uncertified products include light bulbs, LED lights, lighters, electrical tape, lamp holder, extensions, switch, mini ceiling fans, electric fans, electric rice cookers, induction cookers, electric stoves, electric blenders, electric grills, electric food mixer, motorcycle inner tubes, and steel bars.
The Commission on Audit (COA), Local Government Units (LGUs), Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) and Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) witnessed the ceremonies to ensure transparency and proper disposal of the products.
The activity aimed to remind business establishments and customers of the necessity of ensuring that the items they sell or buy are standard-compliant and government-certified in order to avoid the risks that these products pose to consumers’ life and safety.
More disposal activities will be conducted in the following days and weeks.
DTI R2 strongly manifests its serious resolve to go after violating firms and their uncertified products to ensure that all items in the market are considered safe and of good quality. ♦
