TUGUEGARAO CITY — The DTI Region 2, in collaboration with the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) Region 2, Game Developers Association of the Philippines (GDAP), and SM CyberZone successfully conducted a jam-packed and fun-filled Game and Esports Education Roadshow to senior high school and college students from the provinces of Cagayan and Isabela last 14 April 2023 at SM City Tuguegarao.

The said activity showcased the developing industry in the region- its global and local situation, the opportunities present in the industry, and available resources in the Philippine Game and Esports industry- as the accessibility to smartphones and mobile internet has undeniably paved the way for the rise of many Filipino e-gaming communities.

“This (roadshow) promises to be an exceptional opportunity for all the participants, to share your ideas and acquire valuable insights with the latest trends and technologies in the industry,” said Engr. Magdalena Gomez, Technical Operations Division of the DICT Region 2 as she encouraged the participants to participate and take the roadshow as a collaborative and supportive environment where the participants can grow together.

Moreover, RD Leah Pulido Ocampo highlighted that the game development industry involves a lot of talent, including designers, artists, animators, audio engineers, and developers among others. “With these, we can see a lot of opportunities including the creation of more and better jobs for the youth. So, cognizant of the potential of the opportunities in this industry, DTI Region 2 is pushing for its promotion and development in the region,” RD Leah emphasized.

In addition, RD Leah mentioned a possible future collaboration with DICT R2 for Health Care Information Management which the Regional Director hopes to do this year, 2023. “Rest assured that DTI, DICT, and GDAP will support and provide the necessary resources, technical assistance, skills development, and other backing to nurture the game development in the region,” RD Leah said in ending.

The panel of speakers is composed of the DICT-ICT Industry Development Bureau Benchmarking and Promotions Division Chief, Ms. Yvette Cabrera, GDAP Chairman, Mr. Alvin Juban; CEO and Studio Head of Ranida Games, Mr. Ben Joseph Banta; Razer Gold Country Manager, Mr. John Jester Tesoro; and the General Manager of Ranida Esports Network, Mr. John Joshua “JJ-kun” Perez.
