The DTI Regional Office 2 through DTI R2 Quirino Provincial Office commenced today, 17 August 2022 its three-day On-site Consultancy on Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and Standard Sanitation Operating Procedures (SSOP) at the Quirino Young Entrepreneurs Association (QYEA) Processing Center, Quirino State University, Diffun, Quirino.

The initiative is in strong support of the intensive Food Development Program given to the Province of Quirino, specifically to the Quirino Young Entrepreneurs Association and Baguio Village Multi-Purpose Cooperative for ube powder development and its integration into the domestic and global value chains.

The on-site consultancy started with a hybrid opening ceremony attended by officials and personnel of the DTI Region 2, DTI R2 Small Medium Enterprise Development Division, DTI R2 Quirino Provincial, SGS Philippines, Inc., Quirino State University, and Quirino Young Entrepreneurs Association.

In her welcome message, OIC Provincial Director Mary Ann Corpuz-Dy highlighted the commendable effort of QSU in putting together the people who are truly dedicated and committed to producing this specific product (the ube powder).

Meanwhile, Assistant Regional Director Winston T. Singun, representing Regional Director Leah Pulido Ocampo, the brain behind the ube powder development activities, encouraged the team to make ube powder one of the region’s champion products in both the domestic and global market. He also committed to bringing out to the Regional Inclusive Innovation Center the inclusion of ube as the region’s commodity for innovation, particularly in Quirino.

On her part, SGS Philippines, Inc. Business Manager (Food) Ms. Jinelle F. Picones affirmed full support to all the product development undertakings of the agency for the province’s ube powder and other ube products.

The on-site consultancy will run until 19 August 2022. ♦
