QUIRINO, PHILIPPINES – On 5-7 July 2023, the Center for International Trade Expositions and Missions (CITEM) and the Design Center of the Philippines recently conducted a visit to the province of Quirino to assess the products of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) and provide guidance for product development. This endeavor, sponsored by the Provincial Government Office (PGO) of Quirino under the leadership of Gov. Dakila Carlo E. Cua, is in preparation for the esteemed Manila FAME 2023 and the highly anticipated Ambiente Fair in Germany scheduled for 2024.

Recognizing the tremendous potential and with the goal to promote livelihood and entrepreneurial development in the province. PGO Quirino tapped the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Region 2, DTI R2-Quirino Provincial Office, CITEM, and the Design Center of the Philippines to enhance the market competitiveness of local products and elevate their quality and design to meet global standards.

The assessment team, composed of experts from CITEM and the Design Center, visited various MSMEs in Quirino to evaluate their existing product lines and identify areas for improvement. The team meticulously scrutinized each product, considering factors such as design aesthetics, functionality, market appeal, and production capabilities.

“Quirino boasts a rich tapestry of skilled artisans and passionate entrepreneurs who have the potential to create world-class products,” said OIC-Provincial Director Mary Ann Corpuz-Dy during the briefing meeting. “By providing guidance in product development, we aim to empower these MSMEs to compete effectively in both local and international markets,” she added.

During the assessment, the team engaged in in-depth discussions with business owners, gaining valuable insights into their manufacturing processes, sourcing of materials, and future aspirations. These interactions facilitated a collaborative approach to refining product designs and optimizing production methods.

The assessment also presented an opportunity for MSMEs to showcase their products to industry experts, receiving feedback and guidance on enhancing their marketability. Through this process, Quirinian MSMEs were able to gain valuable knowledge and insights from experienced professionals in the design and trade industries.

Following the product assessment and evaluation, the MSMEs will receive comprehensive recommendations and assistance in refining their products. CITEM and the Design Center of the Philippines will provide support in various areas, including product design, material sourcing, production techniques, and marketing strategies, all aimed at aligning the MSMEs’ offerings with international standards and customer preferences.

The collaboration between CITEM, the Design Center of the Philippines, DTI Region 2, and the Provincial Government of Quirino showcases a concerted effort to nurture local talent, strengthen the competitiveness of MSMEs, and promote Philippine products on a global stage. It serves as a testament to the government’s commitment to advancing the growth and development of the country’s creative industries.
