City Price Coordinating Council (CPCC) Tayabas City conducted the Focused Group Discussion (FGD) on agriculture-hog/swine sectors on 17 November 2021, at the Balilo Event Center. This is a timely response to address the concerns of the hog raisers and consumers inquiring about the significant price increase of pork products in Tayabas City since the demand for pork continually increases due to its peak season for Christmas.

Present during the FGD were the following: Alfredo Lafuente of the City Veterinarian Office; Veronica Garcia of the City Market Office; Abner A. Zubieta of the City Agriculture Office; representatives from the Sangguniang Bayan (Councilor Janne Phaula A. Nadres, Committee of Trade, Commerce and Industry; and Councilor Julius Jay F. Luces, Committee on Public Markets, Slaughter House, Hawkers and Stalls); and the private sectors from the Public Market Vendors Association through Filomena R. Pilar; and Teodoro T. Racsag, President of the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI)-Tayabas City Chapter.

DTI-Quezon Consumer Protection Division through Lani O. Constantino, OIC-CPD, BC Ms. Maria Edel L. Villadiego of Negosyo Center Tayabas, Shaira Anne A. Budoy of the Office of the City Planning and Development Coordinator, and Marylou D. Montoya, CPCC Secretariat (CEDIPO), served as moderators during the FGD session. The main objective of FGD is to create an understanding of the gap between production, retailers, and consumers to identify the justifications for price increases in pork based on the value chain analysis. This will also serve as an eye-opener discussion on the current situation of hog raising in the city, creating possible and suitable action plans.
