ALABAT, QUEZON — Thirty-eight (38) learners from Alternative Learning System (ALS)-Alabat District completed and successfully passed their hands-on for the Skills Training on Bangus/Fish Processing on February 23, 2023 at the Kabuhayan Center, Brgy. Camagong, Alabat, Quezon.

This training is part of the program requirement to acquire Completion Certificate for the learners composed of 30 female and 8 male from ALS learning sites in various barangays. Six (6) differently-abled learners (visual disability-1, auditory-speech deficiency-5) under SPED were also invited to join the activity.

Jeric P. Villaruel and Cloyd Veracruz, Fisheries Technician from LGU Alabat discussed proper handling, preparation, ingredients, preservation and key pointers in deboning Bangus.

Victoria T. Gonzales, Business Counselor-Negosyo Center Alabat, shared DTI’s programs and services being offered to existing and potential microentrepreneurs.

The importance of sanitation, personal hygiene and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPEs) for food handlers were also highlighted in her discussion. Basic inputs on food packaging for processed fish products were equally given emphasis to ensure compliance to Food Safety Act.

Along with the knowledge as key takeaway from this training, learners were provided with individual kits containing stainless knife, stainless forcep and cutting board for them to jumpstart a livelihood in Bangus/ fish processing.

As the activity is completed, Sharon A. Villaverde, EdD, Public School District Superintendent- Alabat is thankful for this project collaboration with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI)-Quezon and the Local Government Unit of Alabat through the Office of the Municipal Agriculture (OMA). She commends the efforts of Christian Joy D. Noriel and Bismark V. Oliveros, ALS Implementers who spearheaded preparations to ensure success of this training.

Likewise, she acknowledges the commitment and support from Sangguniang Bayan through Hon. Marriz M. Verzo (SB Committee on Education), Mylene L. Culing, OIC-Municipal Agriculture Officer, Office of the Provincial Governor Helen DL Tan and Office of Cong. Mike Tan through Daniel S. Andres, STAN Alabat District Officer and Hon. Edna A. Camara, BLGU- Gordon who were present during Day 1 for the Opening Ceremonies and Orientation on February 21, 2023 at Alabat Central Elementary School. ♦
