The Department of Trade and Industry – Quezon through Negosyo Center Unisan in partnership with JNJ Oil Industries, Inc. held a skills training on Coco Coir: Basic Sole Footwear making on 8 October 2021 at Adela’s Beach House, Brgy. Kalilayan Ibaba, Unisan, Quezon. This was participated in by members of the Unisan Atimonan Coco farmers Producers Cooperative.

Ma. Lota S. Ruby, the president of SMAGNET, or Samahan ng mga Manggagawa ng Geonet of Mulanay, Quezon, started with a brief discussion about coco coir. She emphasized the benefits of using coco coir as a material in making sole footwear. After her discussion, it was followed by the demonstration of the step-by-step procedures of making sole footwear. Before the end of the training, a hands-on activity was conducted. The participants were able to make a pair of insoles made out of coco coir. ♦
