Adapting to the new normal, the Department of Trade and Industry continues its mentor program through an online platform. The Kapatid Mentor ME (KMME) Online is developed as the practical delivery mechanism for the same mentorship modules to be used to propel micro and small entrepreneurs to survive and thrive in spite of the unprecedented setbacks that now confront businesses of all types and sizes.

The KMME has been implemented since 2016 as a 10-module mentorship program that optimizes weekly face-to-face interactions between the mentors and the mentees with the key goal of boosting the entrepreneurial capacity of the mentees through improved access to Mentorship, Money & Market (i.e., the 3Ms).

For 2020, DTI Region 8 in partnership with the Philippine Center for Entrepreneurship is launching two batches of Online KMME runs. The first batch has 40 graduates who belong from the sectors of processed food, catering services, training services, trading and agriculture. There were 3 from Leyte, 14 from Southern Leyte, 7 form Biliran and 16 from Northern Samar.

Despite the unstable internet connection, remote attendance, and other challenges faced by the mentees, they were determined to finish the said mentorship program.

“I am very thankful that DTI continued its programs for mentorship because we need it this time in the new normal to help us develop strategies in our business,” says Maria Lei Solero-Trogon who owns a store of home-baked goodies and delicacies in Northern Samar. she also mentioned how supportive her groupmates were and how dedicated their mentors were in remotely coaching them in their business.

The run lasted for almost two months from August 6 to September 30, 2020. The mentees underwent sessions on entrepreneurial mindset, product development, market growth and expansion, creation of business model canvass, operations management, human resource, taxation, and business law among others. At the end of all these, the mentees presented their business investment plan as a pre-requisite to their graduation. An online graduation was held on October 1, 2020 where every mentee was given a certificate of recognition for having completed the mentorship course. ♦
