ODIONGAN, ROMBLON — The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) MIMAROPA Region’s provincial Valentine’s Day fairs made a return on February 14, 2023, assisting cacao farmers and student entrepreneurs in Romblon and Marinduque.

In partnership with the local government unit of Odiongan in Romblon, DTI organized a multimodal mini-bazaar promoting the cacao industry in the province. Local chocolate and other baked dessert entrepreneurs were invited to sell their products during the one-day fair. Buyers flocked to the Odiongan Tourism Information Center in Odiongan, Romblon to purchase a variety of food and non-food items for special occasions. Alongside the trade fair, the consumers were also treated with a demonstration of the different methods and techniques in preparing tablea-based hot drinks. The participants were also challenged to create special menu items incorporating unique local flavors.

Exhibitors display Romblon delicacies during the “A Day For Love: Mini Bazaar and Promotion of Local Cocoa and Chocolate” organized by the Department of Trade and Industry – Romblon Office, Negosyo Center Odiongan, and local government unit of Odiongan in Romblon at the Odiongan Tourism Information Center on February 14, 2023.

On the other hand, select students from the College of Accountancy, Business, and Governance of the Marinduque State College (MSC) in Boac, Marinduque spent their Valentine’s Day running a mini trade show. The products displayed during the fair are the output of the student exhibitors themselves after a series of training and seminars organized by DTI and MSC. Around 250 student entrepreneurs participated in the activity.

According to DTI MIMAROPA’s designated regional director, Rodolfo J. Mariposque, market access plays a significant role in creating more jobs and other opportunities for farmers and students. He encouraged the public to start or continue supporting local industries, especially in rural areas. *
