Amidst the lush landscapes of Candaba, Pampanga, a radiant story of women empowerment and triumph takes center stage as we delve into the remarkable journey of the Yellow Ladies of Mandasig (YLM). Guided by the steadfast leadership of YLM President Cecilia M. Sarmiento, their narrative started as one of CARP Agrarian Reform Business Organizations (ARBOs) in the province. YLM journeyed

from humble beginnings to becoming a beacon of economic opportunity, all thanks to the unwavering support and innovative programs of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).

Amidst challenges that tested their mettle, YLM’s journey stands as a testament to the boundless potential of women working together to create positive change.

“I am Cecilia M. Sarmiento, President of Yellow Ladies of Mandasig (YLM). The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) has been our steadfast partner since the beginning, providing assistance that ignited our path to success,” Ms. Sarmiento affirms.

From its inception, DTI’s support has been instrumental to YLM. DTI assisted the group in registering their association with the Department of Labor and Employment, which opened doors for their qualification under DTI’s Shared Service Facility (SSF) Program. In 2017, YLM was awarded a SSF project for garment production, equipped with high-speed sewing machines under a Usufruct Agreement. This marked the turning point, as DTI’s continued assistance breathed life into their project and spurred its growth.

DTI’s marketing assistance propelled YLM’s growth trajectory. High-speed sewing machines revolutionized their capabilities, enabling them to meet high-volume orders. Through DTI’s market linkages and promotion, YLM participated in trade fairs, expanding their reach and capturing diverse buyers and job orders.

The impact was undeniable. “The high-speed sewing machines and DTI’s marketing support empowered us to serve more orders and inquiries,” Ms. Sarmiento stated. With an expanding workforce, YLM’s project became an economic engine, benefiting households and fostering community prosperity.

DTI’s role proved pivotal as YLM became a sub-contractor of leading Philippine garment suppliers, supplying renowned brands to nationwide malls. “Through DTI CARP Pampanga’s marketing support, we’ve established a production center with advanced technology, leading to increased production volume,” Ms. Sarmiento highlights.

Further, the SSF project has allowed YLM to tie up with the country’s leading mall nationwide supplying well-known ladies’ wear brands, including infants’ and children’s wear alike.

Reflecting on their journey, Ms. Sarmiento shares, “We are so thankful to have become one of DTI CARP beneficiaries and with the assistance provided to YLM, lahat nabigyan ng pagkakataon umunlad at umasenso. Our triumphant journey has led us to where we are now.”

From threads to dreams, YLM’s story embodies the transformative power of collaboration, innovation, and unwavering support from DTI. As YLM continues to sew success, their journey inspires us all, underscoring the immense impact that empowering communities can have on building a brighter future. ♦
