PAETE, LAGUNA — To aid the micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and the local livelihood beneficiaries in leveling up their businesses, the Provincial Office of the Department of Trade and Industry in Laguna (DTI Laguna) conducted a Seminar on How to Start a Business cum Consumer Rights and Responsibilities last March 1, 2023, at the CLDD Training Center, Mercado de Calamba, Brgy. 5, Calamba City, Laguna. This is in partnership with the Cooperatives and Livelihood Development Department of the City Government of Calamba.

The Head of the Cooperatives and Livelihood Development Dr. Leonardo Opulencia Sr. and the OIC Provincial Director of DTI Laguna Mr Christian Ted Tungohan were present in the said event. Both of them delivered opening and inspirational messages. Negosyo Center Business Counselor of DTI Laguna Ms Ruzzelle Palentinos hosted the activity.

The first part of the seminar, discussed by Negosyo Center Business Counselor of DTI Laguna Ms Joemarie Valizado, covered the step-by-step process in setting-up a business, including the traits of an entrepreneur, the importance of having a business plan, the use of social media to promote and sell products, financial accessibility through various institutions, and the programs and services for MSMEs available to DTI and other government agencies.

Furthermore, to raise consumer awareness, Senior Trade and Industry Development Specialist of DTI Laguna Ms Monica Czarina Abarca explained the Consumer Rights and Responsibilities. Additionally, Ms. Peachy Galang of the Business Permits and Tricycle Franchising Office of the City Government of Calamba identified the requirements and process for obtaining a Business Permit. Finally, Supervising Cooperative Development Specialist, also from the City Government of Calamba, Ms Phoebe Cervantes delivered the closing remarks.

A total of thirty-three (33) potential and existing MSMEs attended the seminar, which received a majority of Very Satisfactory ratings. “All topics are very informative.” and “Mas madali po nauunawaan ang bawat topic para po sa mga magsisimula pa lang na magnenegosyo. Thank you po. Sana mas marami pa po kayo matulungan at masuportahan.” were the two notable comments received from the participants.
