VICTORIA, LAGUNA — The Department of Trade and Industry – Laguna Provincial Office (DTI-Laguna) participates in the celebration of the WORLD CONSUMER RIGHTS DAY!

Did you know that the first World Consumer Rights Day was observed on March 15, 1983? It is to commemorate the historic speech given by US President John F. Kennedy in 1962 to the US Congress to uphold consumer rights. Thenceforth, organizations like Consumer International have celebrated the occasion by raising awareness about consumer rights and needs every 15th of March.

With that being said, as this event is a global consumer movement, DTI-Laguna participated in the celebration of said event by conducting a Brief Orientation on World Consumer Rights Day and Seminar on Basic Consumer Rights and Responsibilities at the Lina-Lajara-Chipeco Hall, Calamba Elementary School (Central II), Calamba City, Laguna on March 15, 2023.

During the Opening Message, DTI-Laguna OIC Provincial Director Christian Ted Tungohan thanked the City Government of Calamba headed by Honorable City Mayor Roseller Rizal for always partnering with DTI-Laguna in different activities in line with business development and consumer protection. He expressed the support of DTI-Laguna to the participants if they wish to engage into business after the series of seminars.

Furthermore, he mentioned that March 15 is World Consumer Rights Day and the theme for this year is “Empowering Consumers through Clean Energy Transitions”. He reiterated the importance of energy conservation and the clean energy transitions, where consumers can play a crucial role in accelerating the said transition by making informed choices and taking actions that reduce energy consumption and promote renewable energy. Here are some ways that consumers can help:

  • Choosing energy-efficient products: consumers can switch to compact fluorescent lights (CFLs) and light-emitting diode (LEDs) bulbs.
  • Reducing energy consumption: consumers must turn off the lights and unplug appliances when not in use.
  • Switching to renewable energy resources: consumers can consider installing rooftop solar panels.

The said activity is in partnership with Calamba Social Services Department of the City Government of Calamba. Coincided with the said event was the Orientation on Livelihood Program, where DTI-Laguna also discussed the topics on Business Ideas, Entrepreneurial Mindset, Starting a Business and DTI Programs and Services.

This activity was attended 483 residents of Calamba City, who were trained from various skills development program of the City of Calamba.
