In view of the “balik-eskwela” season in Region 2, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Region 2 conducted back-to-back monitoring activities on Republic Act 11900, commonly referred to as VAPE Law, and the price and supply of school supplies. All efforts are geared towards having a safe and carefree back-to-school for students.

The VAPE Law holds great significance in promoting the safety and well-being of the youth in Region 2 by enforcing strict guidelines on the sale and use of vaping products.

In this light, DTI R2, in collaboration with its partner LGUs in key cities and municipalities, conducted inspections of retail establishments that offer vaping products. The objective of these inspections is to advocate compliance with age restrictions, proper labeling, sale, and promotion within one hundred (100) meters from any point on the perimeter of school perimeters, and proper advertising campaigns to ensure adherence to the law’s provisions.

A total of 45 vape shops across the region were monitored, with the breakdown as follows:

  • Cagayan: 8 shops monitored
  • Isabela: 21 shops monitored
  • Quirino: 13 shops monitored
  • Nueva Vizcaya: 3 shops monitored

DTI R2 highlights its commitment to safeguarding youth from the potential risks associated with vaping through these comprehensive monitoring initiatives.

Furthermore, the DTI Region 2 also extended its efforts in monitoring the prices of school supplies in the region. A close monitoring of the prices of essential school supplies was done to ensure that they remained affordable and accessible for parents and students alike. The monitoring conducted revealed that there have been no significant price fluctuations, with prices consistently falling within or below the latest price guide issued by the DTI.

The DTI R2 encourages individuals to create a checklist before going shopping for school supplies. This practice not only prevents overbuying but also contributes to ensuring that the available supplies are sufficient to meet the needs of all students.

Business owners are reminded of their responsibility to regularly update their price lists and prominently display price tags. This proactive measure ensures continued compliance with various fair-trade laws to promote a consumer-friendly shopping experience.

DTI R2 remains dedicated to promoting fair trade practices, consumer protection, and the welfare of consumers through these efforts. ♦
