To support MSMEs to be knowledgeable regarding the protection and security of rights to their intellectual property/creations that benefits them, the Department of Trade and Industry in collaboration with IPOPHL successfully held the 1st webinar of the “Series of Trainings Related on Intellectual Property for Entrepreneurs” (STRIPE) participated in by entrepreneurs and aspiring entrepreneurs from different Municipalities in Rizal Province on June 6, 2023 facilitated by Business Counselor John Francis L. Sta. Rita with the program resource person Mr. Joel C. Caalaman,  Intellectual Property Field Operations Specialist, IPSO Calabarzon.

DTI Rizal Provincial Director Ms. Cleotilde M. Duran’s warm message with high hopes expecting the activity to increase the number of IP registration in the Province of Rizal. BDD Chief Sharon Dioco explained the rationale of the project, which aims to engage the MSMEs to benefit from learnings and awareness on trademarks, patents, copyright, utility models and industrial designs.

IP Field Specialist Caalaman started the discussion of the Brief Background of IPOPHL and the 1987 constitution Article XIV, Section 13. He stressed IP is a creation of the human mind, not absolute, it is territorial and an asset. He also added the criteria of a patentable and non-patentable idea, distinctions between invention patent and utility model, samples of industrial designs, its requirements, and copyrights, and the different rights of a copyright owner. In addition to this, he shared the IPOPHL incentive programs for MSMEs; JUANA Make a Mark, JUAN for the World, and the JUANA patent/design program; the eligibility requirements, fees waived, and how to avail were also discussed.
