Starting a handcrafted business is more than just following your passion.
Ms. Leny Yanoria a graduate of Bachelor of Science in Accountancy and a bank teller started her business in 2013 by selling school costumes and toys when her children were in pre-elementary school. While being a full-time mom she’s joining trade fairs and bazaars in Los Baños, Laguna.
Doing handcrafted fashion accessories is her interest; in 2017, through a friend and also a mentor she started creating handcrafted fashion accessories that turned to Leny Handy Crafts. The business focuses on creating accessories like earrings, necklaces, bracelets, headbands, and mermaid bows, and on the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, she added the facemask lanyard.
During the pandemic, she did not stop looking for a way on how the business will grow and develop. She continued by selling online and joining again in bazaars and trade fairs. Her knowledge in managing a business was further solidified by joining the Kapatid Mentor ME—Money Market Encounter (KMME-MME) Program for Online Sellers organized by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and Philippine Center for Entrepreneurship (PCE). In this, she was able to learn more aspects of strengthening and developing her business through attending modules.
In addition, her handcrafted fashion accessories were gradually making it to the market by being able to join different trade fairs in different places through the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Laguna. She was able to meet also different people, make friends, and the people that inspire her to continue with her passion.
To end, Ms. Leny leaves a message to all her fellow MSMEs “Continue with your dreams and grab every opportunity that will come. Success is not measurable by money, but instead by the happiness that it brings. Just to continue to your life, be positive and make every problem an inspiration to grow”.
With all her new experiences and learnings, Leny Handy Crafts will continue crafting of passion. ♦
