In line with its mandate to improve the competitiveness of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), the Department of Trade and Industry R2 Cagayan, in collaboration with the Provincial Government of Cagayan through the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist led by Ms. Pearlita Lucia Mabasa, DPA, conducted a Product Development Session for Rural Improvement Clubs (RICs) of Cagayan on 23 February 2024 at Provincial Farm School and Agri-Tourism Cente, Anquiray, Amulung, Cagayan.

A total of twenty (20) RICs from all over the province attended the said activity aimed at providing information and relevant discussions on the importance of product and brand development in strengthening the identity of a product and/or business.

In her opening address, Atty. Mabel P. Villarica-Mamba, President of the Regional RIC Federation, extended her gratitude to DTI R2 Cagayan. She highlighted the agency’s proactive approach in addressing requests for product development programs and services for RICs and other MSMEs, guaranteeing their effective market entry.

Mr. Marco T. Accad and Mr. Renmark I. Marcelo, both Trade and Industry Development Specialists, along with Mr. Edward Iringan, a Product Specialist for Food, shared their expertise as resource speakers during the training session.

TIDS Accad provided insights into food safety, unified licensing requirements, application procedures, and FDA registration fees and procedures. On the other hand, TIDS Marcelo and Mr. Iringan elaborated on the diverse packaging and labeling prerequisites for products. Their discussion centered on the fundamental principles of labeling and packaging requirements, aiming to boost the competitiveness of products to be produced by RICs in the market.

After the information session, a one-on-one product critique was conducted. This was facilitated by TIDS Marcelo, Mr. Iringan of the DTI Regional Office, and Mr. Andre M. Abique, TIDS-CARP. ♦
